Drug Addiction Among The Male University Students: A Sociological Study of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur

Drug addiction among university students is one of the gravest issues it prevails in every part of the globe and disturbs the very fabric of society. Youth take drug due to socio-economic frustration or over-excitement. The aim of this study is to determine social, economic impact of drug addicts and to investigate motivational factors which lead students to use drugs in university. It explores the relationship between drug addiction and socio- economic impacts on the students. 200 male students from Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur were selected and data was collected through purposive sampling. In present study, quantitative approach has been used. According to the findings, students' low socio-economic status is the major cause of drug usage, which also has an influence on their academic performance. The media, parents and university administration may all play critical roles in raising awareness about the risks of drug addiction.
